Son intuition r\u00e9volutionnaire : l&rsquo;avenir ne d\u00e9pend que du pr\u00e9sent. Jusqu&rsquo;alors, les probabilistes travaillaient avec des \u00e9v\u00e9nements ind\u00e9pendants. Markov s&rsquo;int\u00e9resse aux s\u00e9quences o\u00f9 chaque \u00e9l\u00e9ment influence le suivant.<\/p><p style=\"font-size:17px; line-height:1.8; color:#101010; margin:0 0 1.25rem;\">L&rsquo;anecdote la plus savoureuse : en 1913, il compte manuellement les 20 000 lettres d&rsquo;Eug\u00e8ne On\u00e9guine de Pouchkine pour prouver que les lettres se succ\u00e8dent selon des probabilit\u00e9s de transition. Un math\u00e9maticien russe d\u00e9nombrant patiemment chaque voyelle d&rsquo;un po\u00e8me pour prouver un point th\u00e9orique.<\/p><p style=\"font-size:17px; line-height:1.8; color:#101010; margin:0 0 1.25rem;\">Face \u00e0 lui : Pavel Nekrasov (1853-1924), math\u00e9maticien respect\u00e9 mais religieux, qui d\u00e9fend l&rsquo;id\u00e9e que la loi des grands nombres ne s&rsquo;applique qu&rsquo;aux \u00e9v\u00e9nements ind\u00e9pendants. Pour Nekrasov, la \u00ab d\u00e9pendance \u00bb ouvre un espace pour le libre arbitre, pour l&rsquo;intervention divine. En 1946, Stanis\u0142aw Ulam, math\u00e9maticien polonais \u00e0 Los Alamos, se remet d&rsquo;une enc\u00e9phalite en jouant au solitaire. Question : quelle est la probabilit\u00e9 de r\u00e9ussir ? Le calcul combinatoire est trop complexe.
